New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities is gathering input on how utilities should measure a large data center’s ability to reduce demand. Its notice scheduled a November 4 stakeholder session and lists November 13 at 5 p.m. as the written-response deadline. The docket concerns tariff development. It does not establish a product certification for semiconductor suppliers.
For a New Jersey team supplying chip-based rack controllers, the distinction matters at quotation. A controller can log a successful command while a second power feed picks up the load. The customer may care about the reduction at the facility meter, while the board supplier can demonstrate only what happened at the rack.
Before quoting a test, draw the measurement boundary with the buyer. Agree on the starting load, elapsed time allowed for the reduction, meter accuracy and conditions for restoring service. Separate the price of bench testing from site acceptance. Keep the signed test definition with the quote so an eventual utility requirement can be compared with what the supplier actually promised.
